If I had to pick a favorite season, it wouldn’t be winter. It’s not my preference to need extra layers of clothing, to have to keep the house closed up, and to worry about the roads. Give me fields of green grass and the scent of honeysuckle blooming and I am content.

But there is one kind of winter day that I love. When there is no wind and the snow comes steadily, building up on the shrubbery and the bare branches, covering the grass, muffling the sounds of the motors around, I want to bundle up and stand outside and just drink in all the beauty. The trees along the driveway are frilly and white like the lace on a wedding gown, and everything looks clean for a little while.
